Developed from a small Meccano club newsletter, Constructor Quarterly has evolved over more than twenty years into the world’s foremost Meccano-related publication. Twelve issues of Sheffield Meccano Guild Magazine, commencing September 1985, document the rapid progress made in converting a photocopied A4 journal into a professionally printed magazine when, exacly three years later in September 1988 the very first issue of CQ rolled off the press. Early issues were in monochrome, with limited colour commencing in CQ10, until very soon every magazine was a blaze of high-quality colour photography.
Top contributors over the years have included Dr Keith Cameron, Bert Love, Brian Rowe, Hubert Lansley, Alan Partridge, Michael Denny, Bill Thacker, Joseph N. Attard, Geoff Bennett, Darren L. Bonner, Bill Charleson, Malcolm Hanson, John Herdman, Guy Kind, Roger Marriott, Tom McCallum, Les Megget, Ian Mordue, Bernard Périer, Chris Shute, Dave Taylor, Michael J. Walker, Frank W. Weber and Alan Wenbourne, ably supported by a host of others. A veritable Meccano Debrett!
Starting from June 2008 (CQ80) onwards, the number of pages was increased from 56 to 60 by popular demand. A typical issue contains no less than ten model descriptions, usually illustrated by 120 or more colour photographs of professional quality and printed on glossy art paper.
Today, we are able to offer a comprehensive range of magazine back numbers, binders and special publications, as well as a growing number of hardback books. Here at CQ our motto is ‘we are easily satisfied with the very best’ – our objective is your complete satisfaction with models at all levels of complexity and reading enjoyment on every single page.
